Shows on 17/11/14
Show One and Two 17/11/14 4:30pm & 7:30pm
Scene One
In scene one I feel that it went really well. the first song we got all of our timing correct. This meant that we were on time to lead into LRRH's song. during this song I think it went the best that we had ever done it. I think that we all picked up on the comical elements within the song, particularly where she is taking the buns off of the counter, as we had not always rehearsed with that bit in the song. After that song I then returned to the frozen frame. Our next bit was when the witch is telling The Baker and his wife about the curse and how they can lift it. Although I didn't have many lines within this song, and we were not always in light, I feel that I always remained in character and really thought about what the Witch was saying to me, I responded using facial expressions to show my confusing and shock then changing it to show how my character was angry with the accusations that the Witch was making. For the final song before we go outside, this went well in terms of singing, as we all really projected, as we were without microphones in the theatre. I feel that in this song I really started to convey the meanings of my solo lines. "To get the potion" is my first solo line in the final song. I really thought of different ways to say it, changing tone and adding gesture, to show how much this means to my character. During this song our dance went well however we were all unsure of where our 8 beat sequence comes in to it and how many marches we were to do before and after. We all then picked it back up when the music changed and then we knew went to go into the next bit.
Scene Two
My first section in scene two is during the song "Hello little girl" between The Wolf and LRRH. I enter from the back of the stage and keep close to the edge of the stage until I get to the front and hide within the branches as if I'm spying on LRRH. During this section I used a lot of audience interaction, using eye contact and facial expression to show my characters concern for the LRRH. My next bit was where my character meets Jack and offers him the beans. Before this scene between The Baker and The Bakers Wife, we did the scene leading up to Jacks entrance slightly to fast, so then we were ready for his entrance before he was walking on stage for the back. I had to then deliver my line "Hello there young lad" whilst he was still walking in. This worked out ok as when I was done with the line he was in position. The highlight of scene 2 for me was the song between Baker and Bakers Wife. We got the right level of tension during this scene to show the annoyance of my character yet not enough to make it seem that our two characters don't have a connection still.
Scene Three
In this scene Jack gives my character 5 gold coins, so that he can get the cow back. We had a mishap with the coins as we could not locate the coins backstage so we had to mime it, using our hands in cupped position so that the audience cant see. This worked ok for this show as we didn't make it to obvious that we didn't have the prop. However this became a problem when the Mystery Man (Paris) did not have anything to take off of my in the show. In the second show on this day we had some loose coins that we used to give away to the Baker. To make it clear to the audience what Jack gave the Baker i held up the coins, and opened my eyes wide. I slowed down my pace on the line "Five gold pieces". This showed my characters astonishment with the gold pieces and how this would change his families life. For my song with the Bakers Wife in the first show on the 17/12/14 i automatically took off my bag (Containing all of the objects) and placed it at the back of the stage ready to sing my song with Bakers Wife, this then created problems with the golden egg that i had to get out of my bag ready for the next scene with the hen. I was advised for the next show on the 17/12/14 to keep my bag on for the whole of this scene, including dances. As for the song 'It Takes Two' my timing for this song was the best it has ever been over the rehearsals. To do this i pin-pointed notes in the music for which i had to sing certain words. The dance that goes with this song went well and i feel that i showed my feeling through my facial expressions throughout the song.
Scene Four
In this scene the Baker and the Bakers Wife give all of the objects to the Witch yet the cow is a fake white cow that has been covered with flour, my cue line to come in with the cow is when the steward says "Lying will cost you your life". I came in on time for this cue yet did not take in account time for the cow to come in with me on her knees, this then meant that i walked on without the cow, For the 7:30pm show on the 17/12/14 i changed my entrance to earlier so that i was already on the stage ready for my line after the Steward and Bakers Wife has finished talking. I had another mistake with my placement of props as it was a rush before the show, this meant that i forgot to have a tin of corn in my bag ready for the last scene, This meant that i had to mime having the corn in this scene, to resolve this problem i made sure that i placed some corn backstage outside and behind the bakery read for the scene.
Scene Five
I did not have much in scene five other than the last song, in this song i had to work on my high notes and then changing back to the low notes, for the final dance i tried really hard to tell the story through my body language and interacting with other character and the audience.
