Singing evaluation for solo performance

In my singing performance  I feel as a whole it went well. In rehearsals leading up tithe song I had tried to add some characterisation to my voice and facial expressions. This is because I spent some time going through the lyrics and pin pointing key events and changed in moves. I showed diverse range of emotions, going from a worry character to a please character when he get what he wants in the song. In the song I feel that my intonation has improved a lot, this was due to my extra rehearsals on note bashing, and this then gave me the confidence during the song, to think about other aspects. I also had good power behind my notes in the parts that I was more confident with, this showed at parts of the song where my volume dropped down, if I wasn't so sure of the notes to hit. To get a better performance next time I would like to spend more time on my song outside of rehearsal, so that I can be become so fermiluar with it and don't need to worry about things on stage and the song can come across more naturally.

Grease dance rehearsal 30/1/2015

In this rehearsal we got a chance to practice with all of the boys to do 'Grease Lightning' with the tyres too. In this dance we tried out some moves incorporating the tyres, this included throwing the tyres, spinning them and jumping over them. After we had covered this we did a ruff run of the whole dance, I think that I improved a lot on my characterisation, as I became more fermiluar with the moves. I did this thinking of what the lyrics in the songs meant, and then changing my facial expressions to match the song. For example for the Grease Lightning song I would use a more masculine facial expression, by showing arrogance. Where for songs like 'We Go Together' I would show a more loving, soft facial expression. I think by showing the contrasting characters throughout the dance makes the audience have a story to follow or helps them understand the meaning behind the songs.

At the end of the rehearsal we spent some time on the ending and how we all come into the circle and have a solo moment, we were all give a number so that it had some sort of order and everyone had a chance in the middle.

In preparation for the next lesson I will explore further into character and look into costumes that fit t e era that Grease is set. One of the main character traits that I have picked up on from the 'T-Birds' is their lad like behaviour, I will try to become more butch with my movement, I will evaluate this by watching back recordings and seeing when I drift away from this and when I'm stronger at this.

Lesson analysis and homework 27/1/2015

This lesson we focused on stylised movement, and we presented our own characters movement sequence for the Britten scenes. As an out of lesson task we had to explore our own characters movement, and then put them along side a Cocorosie song. I chose the song werewolf, this is because it had a slow beat with an underlying faster melody, this meant that I could change my movements dynamics. My movements worked really well with the music, because I payed a lot of attention to the dynamics, and switching from fast to slow, and jumping around in the music, and changing up with beats. I also used points in the music to exaggerate movements, I think having music to work along side with, helps me explore with the dynamics and pace. I think that by combining all of the movements into one sequence, brought more depth to the moves, rather than just having them straight, makes them move of a routine that an audience can look into as much as the want to get an understanding of a character.

Three ideas of possible movements in the Britten scene:

1- my first idea for movement would be on page 61 where the characters start to talk to Lisa about what they have lost, I would have all of the character doing an understated movement sequence, this would be very discreet to the other characters but as the scene is going on each character is explaining their story through their own sequences.

2-another opportunity for movement is when the customers are explaining what Biffer is saying about the Black Dog King. This would be good as on each characters line we can use the movement to describe what they are saying, or even go into each line even deeper

3-for my own characters movement, I will act very on edge to show how he can't be settled in this surrounding. I will do this by using sharp movements, with jarred head movements, and constantly looking around and listening to people's lines.
